Welcome to National Library Week!
Our Strawn ISD Librarian, Mrs. Day, always has different bookmarks available, and that's one of the fun things our students love about going to library! Knowing this, she is going to have bookmarks ready to go home with our students Thursday at Packet Pick Up! Thank you for making reading extra fun!
Show us what YOU'RE reading in the comments or e-mail photos to cassie.ellis@strawnschool.net to be featured on our Facebook page!

UIL Cancels All Remaining Spring Activities and State Championships
With the announcement from Governor Greg Abbott that all Texas schools are to remain closed to in-person learning for the remainder of this school year, and in an effort to help protect the health and safety of Texans, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) is canceling all remaining 2019-2020 spring activities and state championships.
“Our staff had been working hard on plans to resume activities this spring, but without schools in session, interscholastic activities cannot continue,” said UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt. “Our highest priority during this challenging time is ensuring the health and safety of our students and communities and making progress in the containment of COVID-19 in Texas. We are now turning our attention to the 2020-2021 school year.”
Practices, rehearsals, and workouts remain suspended until further notice. The previously communicated information allowing remote instruction remains in place. The UIL will continue to follow the direction of state authorities and will work closely with member schools to navigate this unprecedented time.
“I am grateful to the UIL staff for their leadership and dedication to students,” said UIL Legislative Council Chair Curtis Rhodes. “Together we will get through this and we look forward to the day students are once again able to participate in education-based interscholastic activities.”
Further details will be forthcoming. Please continue to check the UIL website and social media accounts for updates.

Peeps Projects!
Ms. Harris's 3rd Grade Class and Mrs. Milner's Kindergarten Class were assigned peeps to take care of for a week! They named them, and designed a bed and blanket for them. Third Grade did writing and grammar with theirs as well! Kindergarten built a house for their peeps, and drew and labeled the peeps' bedroom. Some even had twins!
The peeps had quite the adventure with our young Greyhounds, especially with Hattie, who ate hers! She was much more caring with the replacement though!

We'd like to give a HUGE thank you to all of our staff who prepared meals and came to help hand them out!
Monday, our cafeteria staff prepared 144 meals (36 bags holding 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches). Wednesday, they served 240 meals (60 bags with 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches in each), and on Friday, they distributed 120 meals (60 bags with a breakfast and a lunch in each). That makes a total of 504 meals served to our students and community this week! Our numbers were a bit off earlier in the week and those posts have been edited to reflect the correct information.
Remember, if you'd like to pick up meals, you must let us know the day before - either by e-mail or through Remind. If you request meals, please make sure you come pick them up.
This week we will be handing out meals on Monday and Wednesday. Friday, there will not be meal pick up due to Good Friday.
